STATUS Network Fosters Nordic Collaboration to Strengthen Classical and Contemporary Music

STATUS, a pan-Nordic network of music organizations, has brought together five key institutions to foster collaboration and explore solutions for challenges faced by musicians working in classical and contemporary music across the region.

Recently, the network's partners—Music Finland, Unga Tankar Om Musik (UTOM), Music Norway, the Iceland Music Information Centre (IMIC), and Snyk—gathered for a workshop at the Bespoke agency. The goal of this gathering was to share insights on the current state of classical and contemporary music in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Finland, and to identify opportunities for future collaboration aimed at strengthening these genres across the Nordic countries.

The workshop is part of a broader initiative to develop an idea catalog, which will compile shared experiences from all five countries and propose innovative solutions to the challenges confronting classical and contemporary music. The final catalog, to be completed later this year, will provide concrete recommendations to enhance the conditions for these genres across the region.

Following the workshop, a reception was held at Musikhuset Copenhagen. Participants were given a tour of the venue by Viktor Wennesz, after which Eline Sigfusson and Anni Syrjäläinen delivered an engaging presentation on the newly established Nordic think tank, a/nordi/c, which launched earlier this year. The reception was a resounding success, thanks to the active participation of all attendees.

STATUS is generously supported by the Augustinus Foundation, the Nordic Culture Fund, and the Danish Arts Foundation.
